creating a soul
Character creation should be fun! It's an important part of any group--if you do not like your character it will be hard for you to participate. Before you submit a join request to the group, don't be afraid to upload your application to dA to share it with others, get tips on it, have it proofread, or check if anything is wrong. Above all else, make sure your character has a design and personality that YOU love. Make it something you want to RP, feel comfortable playing, and could have fun with! Before you get started however, please carefully review the rules below. If your character does not fit our guidelines, it is unlikely they will be accepted into the group.
character rules
-
Characters MUST be felines, and cannot be "big cats" or wild breeds. Domestic felines are a must, and though we have accepted wild-breed hybrids in the past, we will no longer be doing so. The only exceptions are characters which are children or relations from any hybrid characters in season 1.
-
Characters can be a maximum height of 13 inches and a maximum weight of 18lbs.
-
Characters MUST be realistically colored, but may have unique pattern/marking designs within reason. No rainbow cats or markings that look like specific shapes (stars, hearts, etc).
-
Any eye color is allowed. We will have no cap on heterochromia.
-
Please try to keep your character's "hair" as realistic (and preferably easy to draw) as possible! Fringe and tufts are allowed, but full, long hairdos will not be allowed. Use your best judgement.
-
A cat can have a physical disability, but keep in mind it may hinder them later on.
-
A cat can enter the game with ONE accessory. Please keep in mind these cats come from a wasteland where they have no special abilities, and do not have hands to craft things or attach things to themselves. Therefore, please make sure your cat's item is either something from nature, or some human-made item that could have survived decades in the wasteland.
-
Your cat can be any age between 4 months and 12 years.
-
New characters may be related to season 1 characters, but only with prior permission from said character's owner.
-
Your new character may not enter the group already having the red plague.
-
Your cat can have any name as long as it is tasteful and doesn't mock or make fun of the game and concepts. HOWEVER, names that are the same as any character in Season 1 are strongly discouraged, and if you do decide you want the same name, please contact the owner of that Season 1 character to get permission.
-
While this is a mature group and will have many dark themes, please be wary of sensitive topics written into your character's history. If you must include these potentially sensitive themes, please consider adding a content warning to your history for other players' sakes.
the application
To submit your character, you must first fill out an application and submit it to your deviantART page. The application consists of two parts: the application sheet (shown here), and the written application. We stress that you do not have to be a good artist in order to be accepted into Paradise Rising! The originality of your character and your ability to write are far more important to us. If, for whatever reason, you are unable to draw your character for the application sheet, you may have another artist draw it for you (just be sure to get permission from them and credit them). Do not, however, use free or purchased bases or linearts for your application.

The written portion of the application should either be placed directly in the description of your deviation, or you can provide a link in the description to a different platform, such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc. Please just make sure your application is easy to read! There is nothing more frustrating for the admins than struggling to read a character application. If English is not your first language, let us know in your join request.
written info
Your written application can include whatever information you wish, but must AT LEAST include the following:
-
Name
-
Age
-
Soul class (TO BE FILLED IN UPON ACCEPTANCE)
-
Physical description
-
Personality (3 positive, 3 negative, and 3 neutral traits)
-
History (see below)
-
Roleplay or writing sample
These are the absolute MINIMUM requirement and we strongly encourage you to do more! We have not put any length requirements on the written elements, but expect all applicants to be thorough. Remember: not everyone will be accepted into Paradise Rising. Put your best foot forwards and put time and effort into your application!
stat points
Your character will have five active statistics: Intellect, Charisma, Stamina, Strength, and Speed. When first filling out the application sheet, you will have 20 stat points to assign. That means you will only be able to fill out 20 of the 50 blank circles on the application sheet. Place them appropriately, because they will matter later on!
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, LIST IN YOUR APPLICATION WHAT SOUL CLASS YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR CHARACTER TO HAVE. THIS IS SEVERELY FROWNED UPON AND, AT THE VERY LEAST, WOULD ALL BUT GUARANTEE YOU FROM GETTING THAT SPECIFIC SOUL CLASS
history
Be sure that your cat's written history follows along as accurately as possible with Paradise Rising's group history. The following notes must stay consistent across everyone's backgrounds.
-
The Legendaries have been back in the world for five years, with the wastelands slowly disappearing over that time. They were in the Trials and 'missing' from the wastelands for as few as 2 and a half years (but some may have been gone longer).
-
No other cats have discovered any soul powers or partners in this time.
-
Word of the Legendaries has spread far and wide, though you may choose to have your character know more or less about them.
-
The calling to Paradise Valley has been spread via word of mouth, and spread from the Legendaries themselves traveling the lands.
-
Your character has either volunteered or been chosen to participate in the Legendaries' new Trials, to discover your soul powers, partner, and become a god alongside them.
It would also help the mods immensely if you included a shortened bullet-point list form of your character's history! We will be reading the full histories anyway, but having a bullet-point list either before or after the main history would be really appreciated. Alternatively, we don't have a set format for character histories. If you wanted to write the entire history in bullet-point format with no paragraph format, that will also be accepted.
submitting your application
Paradise Rising is not a group where you can join whenever you want. We will ONLY be accepting applications for a short window of time, right before the start of the game. While you can work on your applications at any time, you will be unable to submit them until the group is open for applications. Whether or not the group is currently open will be listed on the dA page.
Instructions on actually submitting an application will be provided in the official Opening Journal that we post on dA. You will have to submit your character though a Google Survey, where you will give us your information and answer a few supplementary questions before sending us your applications.
Please be aware that we will not be responding to your applications until after the application period is over and we have had a chance to review everyone's applications, so please don't bug us about getting a reply! We will be working on it, I promise. Also know that you will be getting a reply, no matter if you were rejected or accepted. If we have announced sending out all of our replies and you never got one, please contact us about it.
