Of course, it hadn’t really been a shock to anyone. The world had been dying for as long as anyone could remember. The wastelands were a ticking clock, a knife hovered carefully over the world’s souls. When the blade finally came down, it was almost a welcome relief. 

The earth shook, the ground split beneath your paws. Ash and fire spewed into the sky, the oily oceans rose in waves too high for anyone to see the tops. That day, the Reckoning, was the day it was all supposed to end. You didn’t know it at the time, but far away on a poisoned mountain, five Old Gods appeared for the first time in hundreds of years, bringing their power down on the world. A golden goddess of purity and light abandoned you. Your last hope at survival fell dead in the snow. It was game over, for more than just the players of the game you never knew was ensuing. It was game over for the entire world. 

But as quickly as the Reckoning had come, it left. The earth stilled once more, the oceans fell back to their regular level. You thought perhaps it would be the first of many ends...but it wasn’t. The players of the hidden game found a way to come out victorious, despite the odds being stacked heavily against them. The clouds in the sky parted to make way for warm sunlight. Clean rains fell, blessing the previously blackened lands with new life. The air blew cool and fresh against your pelt. The Healing had begun. 

This new land, your new world, engineered by the victors of that game, marked the beginning of your new life. It has been a slow process, but the world has returned. The players went to seek Paradise, and brought it back for everyone. 

It has been five years since the Reckoning. The Legendaries have done all they can for the new world.
